100 Squares for Climate Action & Jay Castel Fusano
WWF Roman Coast invites everyone to Castel Fusano Saturday 12 and Sunday, Dec. 13 for Operation Jay, an initiative designed to regrow the forest destroyed by fire during the summer of 2008, with collection and direct seeding of acorns. Piazzale della Villa di Plinio Castel Fusano will be one of "100 Places for Climate" national demonstration on 12 December.
WWF organizes the Roman Coast Pineta Castel Fusano Jay Operation: A large collection of acorns from the next sowing. The aim of the initiative is to help the recovery of the spot and the forest where the disastrous fire of July 2008 had destroyed them. The jay is a bird that feeds on acorns, but some put them by hiding them in special dispensations dug in the ground. Some forget, and if so ... Sow acorns germinate acorns is a symbolic action, but little concrete against rising carbon dioxide levels being recorded at the global level: the event 100 Squares for Climate aims to encourage everyone to do something at the UN climate summit being held in Copenhagen. The increase of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere is caused mainly by the use of fossil fuels. WWF calls on all citizens to participate: by appointment Saturday 12 from 10.00 to 18.00 hours to sign the petition to send to the Climate Conference in Copenhagen at 10.00 and Sunday 13 to Piazzale della Villa di Plinio (crossing via the villa of Pliny and Mediterranean Avenue) fitted with a bag to collect acorns, a pallet of metal or plastic sow.
By sowing the acorns of oak - oak Mediterranean - WWF seeks to promote the spontaneous regrowth of the forest just starting from oak, which is the species in Castel Fusano dominant tree.
